"During the late eighties and early nineties, it was very difficult for anyone perceived as being gay to attend school. I grew up in a very rural area and was pegged as being different immediately, even before I knew that I was gay. My entire high school experience seemed like an experiment in terror. Flash forward to the summer of 2018, I stepped into a classroom at College of the Desert, feeling the same anxiety as I did when I was a teenager. How would I be received? How would I be treated?
